Letters to the Editor

The Record-Record has revised its Letters to the Editor policy. The changes are intended to make these pages more reader-friendly and a more effective forum for sharing opinions on local issues.

The new policy is as follows:

  1. Letters up to 300 words in length may be submitted.

  2. Each letter writer may submit one letter on a given local topic within a four-week period. Exceptions may be made for rebutting responses from others, provided that the rebuttal response contains substantially new information. If another individual in the letter writer’s household, such as a spouse, submits a separate letter with information similar to that offered in the initial letter, it will be subject to the four-week limitation period.

  3. Letters on non-local topics will be considered for publication as space permits.

  4. The following guidelines will remain in effect:

  5. Letters are selected at the discretion of the editor.

  6. Letters may be edited for length, clarity and grammar, and to conform to The Record-Review’s style.

  7. Any letter containing statements that are deemed potentially libelous by our attorney will not be published.

  8. The deadline for letters is Tuesday at noon; space may not be available for all letters in that week’s issue even if they are submitted by deadline.

  9. All letters, including those submitted by email, must include the letter writer’s name, contact phone number and street address.

  10. Letters that have appeared in other publications will not be published.

  11. If you are writing as a spokesperson of a group, such as a political party, civic organization or business, you must identify yourself as such. Otherwise, we will assume you are writing as an individual. The editor reserves the right to include beneath the signature a person’s affiliation if it provides a context for the letter.

  12. We try to verify facts if we have reason to believe they may be inaccurate and may ask for backup documentation. Without such documentation, the editor may choose to delete those statements.

  13. We don’t publish letters praising or criticizing businesses.

  14. No more than 10 names will be included in the signature of a letter. Anything beyond that needs to be a paid ad.

  15. Letters of thanks may not name more than 10 businesses or individuals. Anything beyond that needs to be a paid ad.

  16. We do not publish anonymous letters. An exception may be made if the editor knows the letter writer’s identity and agrees that circumstances justify the writer’s need for anonymity.

  17. Email submissions should be sent to:

  18. While email submissions are strongly preferred, we also accept letters in hard copy form via mail, fax or submitted in person. Our mailing address is P.O. Box 455, Bedford Hills, NY 10507; our fax number is 914-244-0537. Our office address is 16 The Parkway, Third Floor, Katonah.
