Story Ideas

The Record-Review welcomes ideas for news and feature stories. Pitches for the weekly arts, business and school features should be e-mailed to the newsroom. Information about other subjects should be sent to either Ken Kostik, if related to sports; Jessica Fasano who is covering Bedford; or Ed Baum, who covers Pound Ridge.

Calendar Listings

Press releases for the Showcase and What’s Happening columns should be e-mailed to newsroom at least one week prior to publication.

Letters to the Editor

  1. We encourage letters to the editor at The Record-Review. We welcome letters up to 300 words.

  2. Letters are selected at the discretion of the editor and may be edited for length, clarity, grammar or to conform to The Record-Review’s style.

  3. Each letter writer may submit one letter on a given local topic within a four-week period. Exceptions may be made for rebutting responses from others, provided that the rebuttal contains substantially new information. If another individual in the letter writer’s household, such as a spouse, submits a separate letter with information similar to that offered in the initial letter, it will be subject to the four-week limitation period.

  4. Letters on non-local topics will be considered for publication as space permits.

  5. The deadline for letters is Tuesday at noon and space may not be available for all letters in that week’s issue even if they are submitted by deadline.

  6. All letters, including those submitted by email, must include the letter writer’s name, contact phone number and street address.

  7. Letters that have appeared in other publications will not be published.

  8. If you are writing as a spokesperson of a group, such as a political party, civic organization or business, you must identify yourself as such. Otherwise, we will assume you are writing as an individual.

  9. The editor reserves the right to include beneath the signature a person’s affiliation if it provides a context for the letter.

  10. We try to verify facts if we have reason to believe they may be inaccurate and may ask for backup documentation. Without such documentation, the editor may choose to delete those statements.

  11. Any letter containing statements that are deemed potentially libelous by our attorney will not be published.

  12. We don’t publish letters praising or criticizing local businesses.

  13. No more than 10 names will be included in the signature of a letter.

  14. Letters of thanks may name up to 10 businesses or individuals.

  15. We do not publish anonymous letters. An exception may be made if the editor knows the letter writer’s identity and agrees that circumstances justify the writer’s need for anonymity.

  16. Email submissions should be sent to: newsroom@record-review.com.

  17. While email submissions are strongly preferred, we also accept letters in hard copy form via mail, fax or submitted in person. Our mailing address is P.O. Box 455, Bedford Hills, NY 10507; our fax number is 914-244-0537.

Announcements and Obituaries

The Record-Review publishes free obituaries, as well as engagement, wedding and birth announcements, for current and former Bedford and Pound Ridge residents. Submissions should be emailed by Tuesday at 5 p.m. for that Friday’s paper. Engagement and wedding announcements and obituaries must be 500 words or less. Photos should be sent as .jpg or .tif files, saved at 200 dpi or greater. Copy may be edited to conform with the paper’s editorial style. To have an obituary published unedited, as a paid ad, contact our advertising department.
